Towhid Hridoy
Born in Bogra, Towhid Hridoy is a right-handed batter representing Bangladesh. Hridoy’s first-class career began during the 2017-18 season when he made his debut for Rajshahi Division in the National Cricket League. His impressive performances at that level prompted the selectors to name him in the Bangladesh squad for the 2018 Under-19 World Cup in New Zealand. Bangladesh ended the competition in the fifth spot, but Hridoy was one of the bright spots of their campaign. The talented right-hander was the lone centurion at that event for the Bangla Tigers. After returning from New Zealand, Hridoy would go on to make his List A debut for Shinepukur Cricket Club. It became even better in what was turning out to be a good year for him as Sylhet Strikers picked him in the draft for the 2019 Bangladesh Premier League season. Having already had the experience of featuring in an Under-19 World Cup, Hridoy was announced as Bangladesh’s vice-captain for the 2020 Under-19 World Cup. He did not have the best of outings with the bat, but his role as the deputy to skipper Akbar Ali was key to Bangladesh’s maiden Under-19 World Cup triumph. In 2021, Hridoy made everyone take notice when he scored his maiden double-hundred for BCB South Zone. After knocking on the doors of the national side for a couple of years, he made his T20I debut against England during the home series in March 2023. Later that month, he received his maiden ODI cap during the series against Ireland. In his ODI debut game at Sylhet, he scored 92 runs off 85 balls, the highest by a Bangladeshi batter on ODI debut. Other than the Sylhet Strikers in the Bangladesh Premier League, Hridoy has also plied his trade in the Lanka Premier League for the Jaffna Kings.
Due to the presence of experienced players in the Bangladesh top order, Towhid Hridoy has been moved to the middle order, but he has performed this role with aplomb so far. His sound technique and ability to keep the scorecard ticking make him an asset. Ever since his debut, he has grown in stature, and without a doubt, he is a star in the making for Bangladesh.
